  • Percussionist Tom Roady, who appeared on recordings by Emmylou Harris, Tom T. Hall, Brooks & Dunn, Wilson Pickett, and many more, passed away on Sunday from a heart attack. He was 62.
  • Actor John C. Reilly teamed up with Jack White and Third Man Records to cover a couple country classics with Becky Stark and Tom Brosseau. Give a listen to Reilly’s singing here.
  • Police in Florida are searching for Mindy McCready, who took her five-year old son (custody belongs to McCready’s mother) and disappeared. McCready has until 5 p.m. Thursday to surrender the child or face arrest.
  • Chris Parton of CMT wrote a feature on up and coming alt-country songstress Caitlin Rose, whose mother, Liz Rose, writes with Taylor Swift.
  • Lady Antebellum celebrated their sixth #1 single, “We Owned the Night.”
  • Lorrie Morgan will perform at the annual Christmas Concert for the Troops at the Kennedy Center in DC on December 6.
  • Hunter Hayes, David Nail, Sunny Sweeney, Thompson Square, and the Eli Young Band will perform at the 2012 New Faces of Country Music show in February at the Country Radio Seminar, which will be held at the Nashville Convention Center.
  • Eric Gibson of the Gibson Brothers played a rare solo show over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our bluegrass friend Ted Lehmann reviewed the show.
  • In late February, the CMA Songwriters’ Series heads across the Atlantic for shows in London, Belfast, and Dublin. Bob DiPiero, Bill Anderson, and Clint Black are scheduled to perform.

I find myself feeling more and more sad for Mindy McCready.

It figures Paste Magazine would pick one of my least favorite songs off of the Pistol Annies debut album to make their top songs list. Paste ranks right near the top of my “Opposite Taste in Music” list along with Kelly Dearmore! (lol)

If Sunny Sweeney’s current single doesn’t start picking up steam at AirHead Country radio soon, she will be much more of “old news” than a “new face” at the next CRS confab. Darn.

I got to chat with Liz Rose at a Caitlin concert in LA last year and Liz is a really friendly gal. Liz told me Taylor Swift sought her out as a mentor and she was very thankful she did. Getting co-writer credits on some songs on Taylor’s albums must be akin to having Christmas all year long! (lol)
