Toby Keith and Kristen Bell Tapped to Host CMT Awards; Taylor Swift is Billboard’s Woman of the Year; New Music Videos

  • Turnstyled Junkpiled offers helpful hints for any budding country songwriters out there: There is a proper way to go about writing a hit Country song, a formula I call, “Tractors, Trucks, Fishing, Beer and Jesus.”  To garner the attention of Nashville labels, simply use these hillbilly buzzwords as bait in the song title (the more, the merrier) then, reel them. Note:  Songs with fishing analogies like the one I just used, will more than likely go Platinum.
  • The AP reports that Loretta Lynn is “three years older than she has led people to believe, an age change that undermines the story she told of being married at 13 in “‘Coal Miner’s Daughter.’”
  • Glen Campbell will be the grand marshal of the CMA Music Festival parade.
  • Jewly Hight interviewed Pistol Annie Angaleena Presley. An excerpt: I’ve been doing this for 10 years. And I have written about and talked about things that people don’t want to talk about for a long time. I had a really hard way to go in Nashville, because I’m kind of a renegade in the songwriter world. I just never compromised. I just couldn’t compromise, because I do what I do. I’m not a songwriting machine. I just write about what I know and what I feel. That’s just the gift that God gave me. So for me, I’m not really aware of it, just because that’s just what I do and that’s what I’ve been doing for a long time. It took me 10 years to finally find a platform where I could do it for the public.

  • Dolly Parton’s Cracker Barrel CD/DVD set has gone gold.

Thank goodness the wet cigarette that’s Kid Rock and his reign on hosting the CMT Awards has come to an end!

I’m not sure why it’s such a big deal if Loretta Lynn is a few years older than we previously thought. It does NOT substantially change her story and it certainly does not diminish her professional accomplishments.

Kristen Bell? Their confidence in country music to show and tell its own story and attract audiences doing it is enormously heartwarming. Where would the music be, after all, without TV stars who have nothing to do with it? But then, how could they ever have met the impossible challenge of finding a host or hosts from the wide world of country?

I am so bummed out about Kristen Bell being the CMT Awards co-host rather than Hayden Panettiere! At least Hayden will be “acting” like a country artist on the new TV series Nashville…

Angaleens is one interesting specimen. Lord help any man that crosses a strong willed gal like that, and especially in the back woods! I do like her songwriting quite a bit though.

Its funny that Peach Picker’s style country music guideline advice would come out of Los Angeles! Well except for the fact it is sooooo tongue in cheek anyways. (lol)

Oh, great, another rock kid who bought a Townes Van Zandt CD and some Merle Haggard vinyl and now thinks she’s qualified to blather about authenticity and what is and ain’t country. Where is Cheryl Cline when you need her?

    Raz–
Who says it’s a “big deal”?
But if it Loretta Lynn claimed that she was married at 13 and it turns out that she was actually 15, then it’s worth mentioning.
It certainly does not diminish her professional accomplishments, but it suggests that “Coal Miner’s Daughter” mixed fiction in with fact so as to present a gripping story. Am I surprised?–No–That’s probably true of most memoirs.

I’m not thrilled about Kirsten Bell hosting the CMT Awards either, but I am somewhat relieved that the whole Kid Rock craze finally seems to have blown over.
