I don't know Chorney or her music, but she 'did the work' and should be respected for that if nothing else. Rather than focus on the 'deserving artists and albums that weren't nominated' maybe discuss the 'usual suspects' that were nominated, quite possibly on name recognition rather than (perhaps) merit. She no more "gamed the system" than did anyone who's ever sent out a "for your consideration" email, and you don't have to care for her music in the least to see how much of the furor derives from an unjustified sense of entitlement on the part of Americana "insiders" accustomed to seeing their faves as the only contestants. On the other hand, calling this some kind of indie triumph makes sense only if you believe that the folks she buttonholed on grammy365.com actually went and listened to her music before voting, and that requires quite an imaginative stretch.
