The Jim Fulsilli article was intersting, but I resent being labelled a Gee-Bee even though its absolutely true! (lol) My issue is that I like to find artists that sound different and unique and enjoyable, and after listening to music daily for almost 50 years that's getting really hard to do. I am different from a typical boomer Gee-Bee in that I don't listen much to the mainstream rock music I listened to during my junior high, high school, and college years as I got burned out on it. These days I prefer 50's country, pre British Invasion rock and roll, and western swing, and yes that music was a lot better than the vast majority of stuff being recorded today! (lol)

Its nice to hear Kathleen Edwards back in action after her nasty divorce. As if she didn't have enough anger issues already up in the Great White North...

That Woody Guthrie tribute album was assigned the wrong title! It should have been "Rotten Commie Fellow Travelers Reunion". Oh well.

I enjoyed reading the comments about that ridiculous Pam Tillis song. Thanks guys, now I won't waste any time listening to that debacle! (lol)

"...message is moronic, much like linking George Washington and Jonny Appleseed."

Right, if by "much like" you mean "not at all like."

I hate agreeing with luckyoldsun but I must - the song "Two Kings" sounds alright, it's reasonably pleasant listening but the message is moronic, much like linking George Washington and Jonny Appleseed

Jon is correct but I'm not sure it is limited to any particular generation. My grandparents thought that music was all downhill since Benny Goodman's heydays (from the perspective of musicanship, they may have been correct). As much as my grandparents enjoyed the big band music and Jolson, Sinatra and Haymes, they only got to hear it rarely

The boomer generation was the first generation to have been saturated with the music of their youth. Since the saturation level continues to increase (think of how much background music shows up on today's television shows - and I wish they would get rid of it so it wouldn't obscure the dialogue) I am sure that in 30 years there will be many lamenting the fact that they don't make music like Rascal Flatts anymore (LOL)

I went and looked up the "Two Kings" video and I'm disappointed that no-one has commented on it.
I don't normally make awards predictions--and it's hard for independent releases to get proper consideration but I have to make an exception for this record. It's a phenomenal achievement and a stroke of absolute genius, pairing Pam Tillis with an African Amarican youth as they explore the amazing similarities between Marthin Luther King Jr. and Elvis Aron Presley.

Sure Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup" may be the favorite, but that's only because millions of people have heard and seen it. When all the chips are in and all the records are evaluated on their merits, "Two Kings" will be the hands-down winner. All involved--from the lyricists to the record and video producers to, most assuredly, Pam Tillis herself--will receive well-deserved recognition for having the courage an perseverance to create and issue the "Worst Record of the Year."

"Here’s a new video from Pam Tillis and Kris Thomas. The song “Two Kings” pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Elvis Presley."

Sometimes, you just don't know whether you clicked onto that site that runs the "fake news" or on a "genuine" music site.

Thanks for the link to Jim Fusilli's piece. It's a good one, though arguably the most important point is touched on pretty lightly - it's where he says:

"To say that there may be better music now isn't merely a challenge to a Gee-Bee's taste. It's a challenge to his self-perception."

The way that people can link musical taste to self-perception (and not just self; maybe "to their perception of their own and others' characters" is a better way to put it) causes a lot of problems.

I'm really digging the new Kathleen Edwards album. I thought that "Change the Sheets" was pretty great, but part of me is glad that the whole record doesn't sound like that (though the Bon Iver influence is a nice touch). Now I just can't wait for it to actually come out.
