Holy cr*p, Rick, must you show your *ss yet again? Like Jerry Douglas's (or, for that matter, Sam Bush's) music or not, calling it "noodling" says a lot more about your powers of discernment than it does about the music.

That BMI deal stinks, much like the ASCAP deal which preceded it. There's still plenty of strength left in terrestrial radio, but the long range prognosis isn't particularly good, so these settlements strike me as backwards from a songwriter/publisher point of view.

Has anybody ever have good things to say about Curb records after leaving that label?

I mistakenly thought Kenny Cheesehead's new album was titled "Welcome to the AirHead Country Mediocrity Bowl". Silly me...

Might have to watch that Miranda Lambert video with Danica Patrick. There's just something intriguing about women in tight racing outfits who like to drive fast! (lol)

Ah yes, Jerry Douglas. He inspired me to coin the phrase "pointless virtuosity". Jerry just might be the reigning king of noodlegrass, although Sam Bush comes close when he starts to "jam". Crikey!

Opry Alert! Tonight's Opry features the real country of Craig Campbell, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Jim Glaser, Canaan Smith, Jason Michael Carroll, and The Issacs. Interesting mix! Grade: B+.
Schedule: http://www.opry.com/shows/ThisWeek.html

One of my favorite songs on Sunny Sweeney's "Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame" album is "Mama's Opry" written by Iris Dement.

Sad news about Susanna Clark. Guy Clark has been my rock of motivation for songwriting, one of those guys that you know his writing so much you feel like you know him. Breaks my heart for him.

Great news about a new Iris DeMent record. After 16 years, I'd just about concluded that we'd never get to hear another album of her singing her own original compositions.

Moonrise Kingdom is a cool little movie, though near the end it got a little too fantastic for my taste. For all the press "The Last Ride" is getting, I wish we could get more than a sparse handful of screenings to see it.
