  • Matraca Berg’s new album, Love’s Truck Stop, is getting good reviews across the pond.
  • The second annual Red River Songwriters Festival will be held January 24-26 in Red River, New Mexico. Artists scheduled to perform include Ray Wylie Hubbard, Walt Wilkins, Drew Kennedy, and more.
  • Dolly Parton has experienced a “boost in finances” following Whitney Houston’s death and the subsequent mass downloading of “I Will Always Love You.” Parton would also be open to being a judge on The Voice, she tells the Daily Star.
  • Bill Anderson’s tour bus had a run-in with a moose over the weekend. Anderson and the band are fine; the moose, not so much.
  • In December, JD Crowe will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Kentucky.
  • Kathleen Edwards’ name for an all-lady, all-Canadian band: Modern Beaver.
  • There’s some Steve Forbert music available for download on NoiseTrade.
  • Jamey Johnson announced November and December tour dates.
  • Vince Gill, The Oak Ridge Boys, and others celebrated Minnie Pearl’s legacy.
  • Paste photographers shadowed Ryan Bingham for a night.
  • Taylor Swift talks with CMT’s Craig Shelburne about her new album, Red.
  • Also, being Taylor Swift’s psychic sounds like an easy gig. From Radar Online: Taylor was warned by her psychic…that she was about to be hurt and really disappointed by someone close in her life.
  • Mikael Wood of the LA Times reviewed Brad Paisley’s show at the Hollywood Bowl.
  • Carlile, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lucinda Williams, Old Crow Medicine Show, and more will appear on a John Denver tribute record that’s due to be released in February.
  • Connie Gately of Connie & Babe and The Backwoods Boys passed away earlier this month.
  • This week’s album releases:

It’s about time that there’s a good tribute album for John Denver. I’m excited to hear it.

I agree with Leeann that a “good” tribute album honoring John Denver is overdue, I just don’t think those artists listed are the right choices, and especially Lucinda and Brandi. Ugh…

Opry Alert! Tonight’s Opry features the family acts of Pam and Mel Tillis, and Vince Gill with Amy Grant (otherwise known as “The Homewreckers”). Filling out the ticket is Henry Cho, Anita Renfroe, T. Bubba Bechtol, and Riders in the Sky. Grade: B
    Schedule: http://www.opry.com/shows/ThisWeek.html

I was expecting that Taylor Swift psychic article to be a put on, but it wasn’t! (Well, I don’t think so anyway?) Let’s see, they quote Taylor as saying the following: “I just love talking about love,” Taylor told Country Weekly. I love writing about love. I love thinking about love because it’s so unpredictable.” Maybe this explains why Taylor is dating 18 year boys these days! Taylor approaches love like a 13 year old girl, and dating boys any younger than 18 could result in legal issues as well as just coming across as downright creepy! If Taylor keeps chasing 18 year old boys as she gets older, all those soccer moms will stop seeing her as being such a good role model for their daughters…

I do like Kathleen Edward’s sense of humor! (lol)

I sure hope this new record gets Rodney Hayden some much deserved attention for his great music and writing. For those that have not seen him live make it a point he has a tradtional contry voice not heard that much these days.

I highly recommend the new Sweethearts of the Rodeo album. Great to hear some good, new music from them.
