AprilVerchphotobySaindlinGaitherCanada’s April Verch is a triple threat: she’s a fine singer, a deft fiddler, and, as anyone who’s attended one of her concerts knows, a talented step-dancer. Verch, joined by bassist/banjo player Cody Walters and guitarist Hayes Griffin (guests Mac Wiseman, Sammy Shelor, and Bruce Molsky also appear on several tracks), delivers some of her best music to date on her new record, Bright Like Gold (out today), with solid originals like “The Only One” and “Morris & Boris” fitting neatly alongside traditional fiddle tunes as well as a feisty cover of  Loretta Lynn’s “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).”
