Well, I didn't get around to mentioning that Ray Stevens is a sometime commentator on Fox News, Rick. Now you've got to like his stuff. Just have to. (That says it all.)

I've seen Fred Eaglesmith live a couple of times and his shows are always highly entertaining regardless of his song choices. The first time was as a solo opening act for Taj Mahal as his band members were too tired to come into the Tiki Bar in Encinitas! (lol) Fred's between song stories alone are worth the price of admission. Its kind of like Hayes Carll on acid...

Your comment about Todd "The Obamavoter Plan" Snider: "The topical side of his writing (which is consistently from a liberal-to-left perspective, whether you happen to like that or not), has become more pointed over time;" says it all. When I want to hear that kind of crap I tune into "A Prairie Home Companion" or watch "The Good Wife" on TV.

The Cleverly's were recently on Music City Roots and had me scratching my head a great deal during their performance. I'm not sure I found them either more entertaining or confounding?

A little bit of Ray Stevens goes a long way unlike the great Shel Silverstein songs cut by Bobby Bare that don't quickly grow wearisome. In that list of humorous music makers you mentioned, don't forget the Hoosier HotShots! Did Ray ever cut a version of their song "Going To The Indies and the Andes In My Undies"? Hmm...
