Sadly, the last vestige of the split between California and Nashville country seems to be among those CMA members who vote on Hall of Fame membership. I imagine that the voters are mostly Nashville-based, so the fact that there are no Maddoxes in the Hall will probably continue until the CMA spreads that around some. Which I guess is a reason for fans of California-based country acts to join the CMA....

Barry said: "By the way: If this exhibit brings enough new attention to the Maddox Brothers and Rose, and to Don Rich as an instrumentalist, to get them inducted into the Hall of Fame, well—good!"

Amen to that brother! Amen! (lol)

I think the fact the Bakersfield centered country music scene arose in an organic fashion from the times and the people directly involved separated it from Nashville in more ways than physical distance. It just was what it was and thankfully the good folks at Capitol Records in Hollywood (and other LA labels) found enough merit in the music to record and promote it nationwide. It wasn't until Buck hit so big on the national scene that the creation of the ACM was even warranted to shine the spotlight on west coast based artists.

I think the CMHOF should consider a tribute exhibit to the earlier set of LA based artists (at the time) who arguably made LA the home base of western swing music in the late 1940's through the early 50's. Merle Travis was here along with Tex Williams and Spade Cooley, and my personal favorite Hank Penny. That would be one swingin' exhibit!
