Actually, Travis’s “Around the Bend” album from 2008 was marketed as a mainstream, non-gospel country offering.
I guess he already seemed headed too far around the bend at the time and the album fizzled.

I disagree. I think his career is exactly what he needs to focus on right now. He obviously has a bit too much free time these days. He’s been on a downward spiral since his divorce a few years ago and his last arrest was the aftermath of a fight with his girlfriend, who then handed him his car keys I presume. He obviously needs to see that there are people who still care about him and how better than standing in front of thousands of screaming fans?

Obviously he needs some sort of rehabilitation as well, but as somebody who struggled with alcohol for a while before I quit and then learned to drink responsibly, I can say firsthand that staying busy is the best deterrence. And, with nothing in the past 12 years other than gospel albums and a duets album featuring remakes of his past hits, it’s safe to say that he needs a new challenge to get his career and his life back on track.

The more I read about this incident, the more it seems like more than just a drink problem. He needs help, and putting his career on one side for a while, imho.

The way I see it is this: if the renewed attention brought to them in the past year by making fools of themselves doesn’t get Randy and Hank Jr. in the Hall of Fame, nothing will.

I disapprove of Randy’s behavior but on the other hand (pun not intended), I’m hoping that some great music will come out of this. After this incident, the attention is there, as is the material. All it needs is to be written and recorded. Randy could be the guy who brings traditional honky-tonk back into the spotlight yet again.

Tonight the Opry vs. Music City Roots feud rages on!
The Opry features Gene Watson, Elizabeth Cook, Steve Wariner, Greg Bates, and Rodney Atkins. Grade: B+
Music City Roots counters with a line up as usual of many artists I have never heard of! I have heard of Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, and The Packway Handle Band, but other artists featured include Seth Walker, Sol Driven Train (is this like Solyndra?), and Dave Eggar with Amber Rubarth.
Yet again the Opry has a stronger line-up but I will try to tune to MCR for the Packway Handle Band set. Decision: Opry!

I saw Suzie Glaze perform live at the Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest and she and her band were okay. It was a local bluegrass band named “Rocky Neck Bluegrass” though that really blew me away! They borrowed a banjo player from the Orange County based band “GrassLand” who picks like Earl Scruggs! Crikey!

Randy Travis Arrested

You can always explain away a DWI arrest–”I wasn’t drunk,” “I wasn’t actually driving,” “I was taking a prescription medications”–

But DWN–”Driving While Naked” makes it a bit problematic.

Maybe Randy had a few drinks and went to bed in the raw and woke to find a burglar in his house… and the guy fled and Randy ran out and hopped into his car and gave chase and wound up crashing.

I’m just trying to help out.
