[...] Numerous tributes to the Father of Bluegrass were released in 2011, when Monroe would have celebrated his 100th birthday, but McCoury, a former Blue Grass Boy, recorded the best one. Eschewing hits like “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” McCoury chose lesser known songs like “Lonesome Truck Driver’s Blues.” The band is sharp as always, especially Jason Carter, who played up to three fiddle parts for each song. With Old Memories, the new Bluegrass Hall of Famer has done his old boss proud. Read Juli Thanki’s interview with Del McCoury here. [...]

Nice interview and article Juli. I always look forward to Del's appearances on the Opry as they are among the best performances heard from the Opry stage these days. A couple of years ago I won a pair of tickets to a concert featuring Del and his band with Vince Gill and Amy Grant as headliners at LA's Greek Theater. I will admit I enjoyed Del's set much more than Vince's and left when Amy's segment began.

When Dierks Bentley did his grammy awards weekend show "with friends" at LA's Troubadour club earlier this year, it was Del and company that stood head and shoulders above the rest. Del's appearance definitely justified the ticket price!

Its nice to read that Del picked more obscure songs for this project. I think covers of Bill's biggest songs can get wearisome these days. Go Del!
