New Zac Brown Band Album Drops 7/10; Jonny Corndawg Dreams Big; Bluegrass-to-English Translations

  • On July 10, the Zac Brown Band will release their new album, Uncaged. Trombone Shorty guests on one of the songs.
  • Levon Helm’s friends and fans can pay their respects at his Woodstock studio tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • The Crooked Road Music Heritage Trail in Southwest Virginia is hosting a contest in which you can enter to win one of seven getaway packages to explore some of the roots of American music.
  • The residents of a retirement home in Silver Spring, Maryland host a regular bluegrass jam. Be sure to check out the video of 85-year old fiddler Henry Plotkin.
  • Hellbound Glory, Turnpike Troubadours, Whitey Morgan & The 78s, and others make Saving Country Music’s list of “Go Ready” country bands.
  • CMT plans to show music videos this weekend. New ones from Kix Brooks, Lady Antebellum, Lee Brice, and others will premiere starting Friday at 6 a.m. Eastern.
  • Chris Jones provides some helpful Bluegrass-to-English translations.
  • Adam Sheets has his work cut out for him: he just began posting a guide to Johnny Cash’s discography. Part One covers 1957-1969.
  • Jack White will compose the score for Gore Verbinski’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. The film is scheduled to debut in May 2013.

    Wow, Jack White composing the music for “The Lone Ranger” soundtrack! The only thing that could possibly add to that would be T. Bonehead getting on board as well. Sheesh.

    You can tell the kids have all grown up and flown the coop when someone like Alan Jackson sells his lake house. As Tracy Lawrence sang so well, time marches on…
