Speaking of the Blue Sky Riders, I just purchased a ticket to see them perform at LA’s MINT Club this coming Friday. The article linked to above mentions the group will be in LA on the 24th to appear on the Jay Leno show, so I’m glad they decided to stick around for an extra day. On the other hand the article also mentioned they performed at a fundraiser for Al Franken! I sure hope they don’t have any “political chat” during the set or I might get queasy…

Speaking of the Opry in addition to Jon W. and the Del McCoury band tonight’s show will also feature Joe Diffie, Diamond Rio, Hunter Hayes, Ricky Skaggs and Andrew Peterson(?). Grade B (because of Jon! lol) The Saturday Night Opry will feature Del McCoury, Tyler Farr, T.G. Sheppard, Terri Clark, the Mavericks, and Charlie Worsham(?). Grade: B (also because of Jon!..lol)

Gosh, going to Anchorage in January to see a bunch of local unknown acts perform just doesn’t strike me as all that attractive! The free admission sounds about right though…

That Troubadour Blues documentary sounds interesting. Even local LA artist Peter Case is featured although I much prefer his music when Peter was fronting The Plimsouls way back when. LA’s local country and Americana artists must keep doing it to experience “the moment” because there sure isn’t much money involved.

If Gary Allan ever gets a “voice transplant” I might pay attention…Nah, probably not. And who in the heck is Terry Allen? Another one of those Texas types with a voice with “technical shortcomings”? Hmm…

Thanks for the link to the Maybelle Carter audio clips; interesting to hear her autoharp arrangement of “Cattle Call,” which comes after she plays a bit of “Gathering Flowers…” in the final clip.

In other news, if you tune in to the Grand Ole Opry tonight or tomorrow night during the 7:30 to 8:00 (CST) slot, you’ll get to hear me filling in with the Del McCoury Band. Also subbing this week, the legendary Buddy Spicher on fiddle…
