And on the Dylan side of things, there's a brilliant cover of It Takes A Lot to Laugh, It Takes A Train to Cry from Stephen Stills, on the Bloomfield/Kooper/Stills 'Super Session' album.

An addendum to the news roundup - that's not the only record Jim's got coming out this year.

BUDDY & JIM will come out through New West in December, fulfilling the dreams of Americana fans everywhere.

Listen to the single (performed on the Americana Awards a couple of hours ago) here: http://www.cmtedge.com/2012/09/12/jim-lauderdale-buddy-miller-get-a-new-job/

I don't know if it makes me a hopeless square to say I love Bobby Bare's take on "Blowin' In the Wind"--or, hopefully, Bare is retro cool now.

The Country Gentlemen's "Walking Down The Line." Best. Dylan. Cover. Ever.

Although Tim O'Brien and the O'Boys' entire Red On Blonde album comes pretty dang close.

In terms of Dylan covers, I'm partial to Albert Lee's version of "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You", Sue Foley's "Positively 4th Street", and Redbird's "Buckets of Rain".

Tonight's Music City Roots is featuring Australian Americana(?) type artists. The best known is Felicity Urquhart who has been hosting the Saturday Night Country radio show down under since John Nutting retired a few years back. Felicity loves to travel to Nashville to co-write with country and Americana artists based there. Should be an interesting show. I can't wait to hear what the guy dressed like a pirate sounds like? Crikey mate!

Last night's Opry was outstanding! Well except for the guy struggling on the doghouse bass with the Del McCoury band...(lol)

Let's see, a couple of favorite Dylan covers eh? Well, I'd go with the Elana James cover of "One More Night" and "Don't Think Twice" bluegrass style by The Rice Brothers. I've been waiting for Ted Nugent to cover "Tangled Up In Blue"...

That article on Elizabeth Cook would be so much more meaningful if it had come from a reputable (ie conservative) source! Oh well...

I'll stick with the Crystal Gayle version of "Barbara Allen" with the more modern melody structure. Crystal's vocals don't hurt either.

I need to find out where the Rascal Flatts star will be so I can leave a pile of dog poop there at some time in the future. It just seems like a fitting tribute.
