I saw South 65 at a street festival I played at in northern Kentucky. They sang to tracks. It was pretty funny from a country music point of view.

That is...Outside of, you know, actually creating a boy band a-la X-Factor's Lakoda Rayne, which is a show put together girl group that will likely get a country deal...

The only problem with "Country Boy Band" article is that there WAS a Pearlman boyband put together with Kenny Rogers' assistance, "Marshall Dylan" or something like that and there was also the "South 65" band but together by a member of All-4-One. Guess they're talking about a 'successful' boy band...

Well if he tours here again, maybe I'll give him another go then. There was absolutely no between songs banter at all when we saw them.

Wow, BLL, I'm sorry you had such a lousy experience. It must have been an off night for Vince -- I've seen him live more than once and he's been loose with the audience and smoking on the guitar each time. I'd give him another chance if you ever get the opportunity.

I'll add that in the second show that I saw, Vince even answered a call from his daughter, Jenny, who didn't realize that he was in the middle of a show because "When your kid calls, you answer", which was quite entertaining and sweet.

I've been to two Vince concerts, one in 2005 and the other in 2010, and he bantered a lot in both, even spontaneously with the audience. He played for close to four hours for the 2005 show. The older people started trickling out around 11:30, during his smoldering, lyric changed version of "There's Nothing Like a Woman".:) His guitar playing was impressive and effortless. My husband who respects him, but isn't a personal fan was impressed by both his personality and guitar playing. I suspect he might have had a tired day or something when you saw him, BLL. As far as Trisha Yearwood, I get that she's a pretty funny person from interviews that I've heard. I'd like to see her in concert someday for sure.

I wouldn't agree with that LuckyOldSun; I saw Vince Gill in 2002 expecting the freewheeling, funny guy we saw as host of the awards shows for a few years. His opening act Trisha Yearwood was note perfect, of course, but also a scream and very, very entertaining. I was surprised but pleased as I'd seen her in her 'singing stick' days.

Vince was note for note perfection, just like his recordings, so no disappointment there, but he was, dare I say it: BORING! Yup, boring...no banter, no joking about, not even any showboating on the guitar solos. Once of the few concerts I've ever left early as my husband kept falling asleep and was snoring!

Rick,
I guess that's about the quintessential "left-handed compliment."

Gill is one of those artists who I'd like to see play live. I get the feeling that he's much more of a freewheeling, butt-kicking musician live than the sedate, carefu, every-hair-in-place crooner that he presented in his hitmaking days.
