Thanks for that insight Barry! I'm really looking forward to your write up of that event and am glad you have chosen to attend.

Last night (Friday Nov. 23rd) on the "WSM Request Show" after the Opry I asked Kevin Anderson to spin a Collins Kids song and he seemed to not be familiar with them! (lol) Neither Kevin, nor Eddie Stubbs, played a Collins Kids song so I'm guessing the WSM music library might not have any. It's time they headed to the E.T. Record Shop to pick up a copy of the Bear Family CD "The Rockin'est!".

I once discussed Rose Maddox with Ms. Shepard; she felt competitive towards her, mainly, said they had some "set tos" but eventually--later-- became good friends. Among the country women who followed Rose they often seemed to have admired her talent, but she could be, well, prickly.

Barry, I think you should contact the CMHOF and tell them the MUST video record that panel discussion! (lol) I would love to hear what Jean Shepard has to say about Rose Maddox. Also, having Lorrie Collins there is too cool. The Collins Kids should have focused far more on country music rather than rockabilly and they might have had greater success and longevity. Their song "They're Still In Love" is top shelf by any standard. They are mostly an unknown/forgotten act these days so I'm glad Bear Family put out a neat compilation album of their better songs.

Jeremy, I totally agree with you about this week's MCR show. It was also one of the longest MCR shows ever by about half an hour but no one was complaining. The music was consistently good to excellent throughout the entire program, unilke most MCR shows where the opposite is usually the case. It's well worth a listen, all three hours of it!

I encourage all to head over to the MCR website and catch up with this week's show. One of their best.

Jan Howard did appear on a panel on the opening week of the Bakersfield exhibit, fyi, Rick. And I' plan to be at that "Women of West Coast Country" event, so at least I can report on it later. It's possible it will be streamed after the fact, as the Hall often does, but I don't know that to be the case as of now..

Speaking of Buddy and Jim, they will be performing on this Wednesday night's Music City Roots show! Yay! Other artists slated to appear include 18 South (fronted by Jon Randall Stewart), Shawn Camp, Mike Farris, and The Church Sisters. Grade A! It's a shame so few people will be tuning in due to the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. Oh well...

I would love to watch that "Women of West Coast County" panel discussion live online from the CMHOF but they don't offer such a service! The CMHOF needs to get in contact with the Music City Roots folks and set up similar live streaming capability to cover these types of events. Even as a pay service I'd gladly pay $5 to watch this live if I had the opportunity. I'm guessing there are quite a few other people who don't live in Nashville who would love to take advantage of such a service if it were offered. They'd better record this event for their archives and make it available on their website at some point or I'll be an unhappy camper. Events like this are too important not to preserve for posterity!

You know Jan Howard should also be included in that CMHOF panel discusssion of west coast country women. Jan and her songwriter husband Harlan lived in Los Angeles in the mid to late 1950's and Jan recorded duets with their close personal friend Wynn Stewart who would stay with them on occasion. I think Jan well deserves a seat at that table.

It reads like a guy was given--or gave himself--the assignment of writigng the entire history of country music. So he got an encyclopedia and read up on Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. And he started writing about what he read. And then he kind of tired of the whole thing and decided to tell the rest of country music history from memory--and whatever popped into his head--including the made-up fact that Elvis got "You Were Always On My Mind" from Willie!

Oh, and the guy wrote this opus a dozen or so years ago and MusicRadar decided to post it now.

In this case, I have to agree that it's "something else."
