  • Guy Clark’s camp went to Facebook to announce that he will be releasing a new album called My Favorite Picture of You this spring.
  • Peter Cooper wrote a phenomenal piece for the Tennessean on the 50th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Randy Hughes.
  • Collin Raye is putting the finishing touches on a yet-untitled Glen Campbell tribute album that will have Ricky Skaggs appear as a guest star.
  • Did Martina McBride and Republic part ways?
  • Jana Kramer will be appearing in a new film called Approaching Midnight. You can catch the trailer here.
  • Joey + Rory’s 5th Annual Bib and Buckle Fest will be held at their farmhouse in Pottsville, Tenn. on June 1. Joey says, “One added feature we will have at the festival this year is a Songwriter’s Stage in the big barn where we do a lot of the TV show taping.  You will be able to hear some of the best singer-songwriters sing their songs and tell the stories behind them.” (via press release)
  • Big & Rich were awarded the CRS 2013 Artist Humanitarian Award at Country Radio Seminar for their work with visiting individual patients in hospitals, staging benefit concerts for the Country Music Hall of Fame and the 173rd Airborne Memorial, and their international outreach in Uganda, Sudan, Haiti and Kenya.
  • Craig Morgan has entered a dogsled race in the Arctic Circle.

  • Jewly Hight did an interview with The SteelDrivers’ Gary Nichols for CMT Edge. An excerpt: “I’d had the lonesome songs, but I didn’t have a killin’ song until I joined the band. Normally, I don’t set out to write a particular song or for a particular artist. I just write whatever’s on my mind. … “Shallow Grave” and “When You Don’t Come Home,” we set out to write a particular type of song, and fortunately we were successful. Because lots of times, when you plan to write something, it fails. It was definitely a fun way for me to vent and be a little bit violent because that’s the opposite of my character.”

I clicked on the link for the Eric Welford video for “What Country Is” to see if it was a country protest song. I found out that it probably deserves to have one written about it.

Item from above: “Did Martina McBride and Republic part ways?” To heck with that, I’m still trying to figure out if Sunny Sweeney and Republic Nashville have parted ways? Crikey!

The female artists in the above videos list kick the tushies of the guys for the most part. Canadian teeny-bopper cutie Maddison Krebs has a perfect pop country voice, now all she needs is some good material. Scottish lass Tasha Blackmore needs a suntan and better enunciation, but her languid delivery is interesting. Kait Lawson is a welcome addition to the roster of female Americana artists and strikes me as a Memphis version of Kathleen Edwards without the anger issues. Courtney Jaye has a nice voice but this song was just too repetitious. The Caitlin Rose video was a bit out there, but the song sounds like Kim Richey in her “Glimmer” phase. Ashley just kicks butt period Hippie Annie or not. The Craig Campbell /Troy Cassar-Daley video was a nice little tour of Tamworth NSW during the Country Music Festival back in January. It’s nice to know the Aussies appreciate Craig’s music at least!

Peter Cooper has a very unique writing style. I think if he were transported back to the mid 1950’s, he’d make a good beatnik! (lol)
