And I used "you're probably going to lose your bet" in a no less idiomatic fashion. Sorry if you're so unfamiliar with what we idiomatically call "give and take."

As far as your prediction goes, how about giving us some short-term ones, so that we might be able to calibrate our appreciation for your prognosticational powers? Because right now, you look just a little bit like another anonymous internet troll with a propensity for self-aggrandizing blather, but whose intellectual abilities actually extend no further than being able to manipulate a keyboard. OK, more than just a little bit.

Jon--
You're becoming incoherent. I used the term "I'll bet" in a clearly idiomatic fashion--but I would certainly be willing to make such a bet if someone, such as yourself, chose to take it literally.

The Brooks-Yearwood duets album and "The Lamb" are similar in one key respect--Both of them are projects that have been promised for the future and will likely be delivered around the same time--the 12th of never!

I don't set myself up as superior to Brooks in terms of how to make and market country albums--I recognize that he's a great talent at music and also promotion--which often entails spewing forth a lot of nonsense.

I offered a perfectly reasonable possibility which made your bet - funny that you call it hypothetical when you're the one who put it out there - irrelevant, and you rejected it.

As for the rest, you do seem to be setting yourself up as superior to Brooks in terms of understanding how to make and market country albums, so the question naturally arises as to what track record you have that would justify such confidence. Certainly, your bizarre assertion that a Brooks-Yearwood duets album and "The Lamb" are similar projects doesn't inspire any.

Well Jonno, the only way I could "lose" the hypothetical bet would be if Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were to put out a duet album within "just a couple of years" and it turned out to be a major success. And since you think I'm "probably" going to lose, ergo that means you're expecting just such an event from our modern-day George and Tammy.

As for me, I expect the Garth-Trisha duet album to come out right after Orion Pictures puts out "The Lamb," starring Garth Brooks as the Australian pop superstar Chris Gaines, in a major theatrical release. I'm sure you have your fronet and center seat at Grauman's Chinese Theatre reserved for the epic openning night.

Then I'd say you're probably going to lose your bet. Unless you're holding yourself up as having a stronger grasp on how to market a country music album than Garth Brooks does. How's the comparative track record in that regard?

"Maybe he doesn’t care about being in the forefront of the market."

Good one Jonno! I used to say you had no sense of humor, but Garth doesn't care about being in the forefront of the market--that's the funniest line I've heard in a week. Thanks for a good laugh!

Garth Brooks is very smart and very savvy, no doubt. One thing I've noticed in recent years though - his music, when played on the radio these days - sounds VERY dated. The lyrics on his songs are fine, but the production on them is 1990s for sure, and they sound out of place now. Most music from the 90s sounds the same, but there is some that did manage to achieve a more timeless, classic sound and played on radio today sounds good as ever. At any rate, if he comes out with new music he'll have to update to get it played. I would say that I'm sure he can, but some of the last things he released seemed a bit stuck in the past production wise. So I wonder.

Maybe he doesn't care about being in the forefront of the market. Just because you have no way of grasping musical accomplishment except by counting records played and dollars made doesn't mean everyone else is as conceptually impoverished.

LuckyOldSun, Garth is quite possibly the most brilliant music marketer in the history of the genre. If and when he decides to come out of retirement, there's no doubt that there is going to be a heavy media blitz that could possibly include more HBO specials, stadium tours around the US and beyond, talk show appearances, dedicated television specials and more. Certainly the quality and reception of the music will play a role in the success, but I still believe that the nation is starved for his return. His multiple sell-out flood relief shows in Nashville and consistent sell-out shows in Vegas show a heavy demand for his music. How music is delivered to the consumer these days is much different than in his heyday, so I don't think his albums will dominate in sales like they once did. But I wouldn't ever count out Garth Brooks. The guy is just way too smart and way too savvy... even with a duet album with his bride.

Garth Brooks is obviously brilliant in terms of the ability to create a sound along with a persona that capture the interest of the music-buying public.

Can he do it again--create new music that sounds fresh and vital and current and returns him to the forefront of the market? I don't know, but I'll bet on one thing: If he does it, it ain't gonna be through a duet album with Trisha Yearwood!
