FYI. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’ in studio performance of White Rabbit on the NPR show, Fresh Air, is available for purchase as a digital download at both GillianWelch.com and iTunes. However, in my view, the Fresh Air performance doesn’t do justice to their live performances of it at various festivals and concerts.

Oh, I agree with that. Nobody much remembers Hank Penny any more. Of course, a lot of people don’t remember anybody from three years ago.

I’m so glad to see Hank Penny made the list! I listen to that particular song on a fairly regular basis as its on the “Crazy Rhythm” CD put out on the Bloodshot label’s “Soundies” series awhile back. Today I was playing another song off that album “Flamin’ Maimie” in my car and the guy sitting in the truck next to me at an intersection asked who the artist was. I told him Hank Penny but there wasn’t any name recognition on his part, proving Paul Dennis right that hank is a “Forgotten Artist!” (lol)

There’s the really REALLY country (and old, and rare) “Up Jumped the Rabbit’ by the Georgia Pot Lickers. (They knew what they liked to lick.)..and “Blues Jumped the Rabbit”..which you can find around in a rare video version by the late, sometimes great Karen Dalton, or on record, as “Blues Chase Up a Rabbit,” by Judy Henske.
