I love that At the Ryman album. It's what first got me to like Emmylou and subsequently made me a solid fan.

Hard to believe it's been twenty years since Emmylou's At the Ryman album. My first Emmylou album and one of my first country albums. Saw her and the Nash Ramblers on that tour at the old Birchmere and they were just great.

Enjoyed the article by Mr. Himes on Kathleen Edwards and how the new album came about. Looking forward to seeing her live in a couple of weeks.

Juli, I'm curious how you know about KCRW and the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" radio show? I live in LA and I avoid that People's Republic of Santa Monica NPR station like it was the plague. Even "A Prairie Home Companion" is wise enough to be on high power KPCC instead. But then again you don't feel towards political leftists quite the same way I do...(lol)

As for "Honeyhoney", I just never see them having broad market appeal. Sure every straight guy that looks at Suzanne Santo lusts after her (ala Jimmy Carter), but the music is just not that accessible. Well that and the potty mouth lyrics that lead to parental warning labels on their CD's...

I enjoyed The Roys' new video, but then I've been a fan of their music for at least 4 years now when I bought their 1st indie CD release. They originally tried to break into the Top 40 country market with songs that sounded like Ricky Skaggs back in the 1980's! That sure wasn't going to happen these days, so I'm glad the bluegrass folks are making them welcome. Elaine doesn't have the strongest voice around, but Lee can sound almost exactly like Ricky Skaggs! Go Roys!

Its nice to read Kathleen Edwards hasn't lost her spunkiness or attitude! Go Kathleen!

Excellent piece on Emmylou Harris and lower Broadway by Peter Cooper. I was hoping he'd speak a little more though about the bands like Jason & The Scoarchers, Hillbilly Casino, Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, Joe Buck and Layla, Layla who still owns and operates The Bluegrass Inn, who helped revitalize lower Broadway as much as anyone.

This is a great video from 1983 by Jason & The Scoarchers. It starts off at Hatch Show Print, shows them at various spots on lower Broadway, and ends with them playing a concert at the then shuttered Ryman. The cowpunks cared about this historic part of town when much of Nashville didn't.
