I remember Mac fron the days he was a regular on the WWVA Wheeling Big Jamboree and I would listen on my six transistor radio.

Mac Wiseman is timeless, ageless and a national treasure worthy of Kennedy Center honors, not that he'll ever get them (Eddy Arnold didn't and he was far more fworthy than some of the honorees).

Ben, thanks for the tip! I will definitely have to check out those tunes. The real question is how they stand up to Amber Digby's covers of Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette songs...

Emmylou Harris Opry Alert! Tonight (Saturday) Emmylou Harris takes over the Opry at 8:15 PM (CST) along with her friends including Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Buddy Miller, Shawn Colvin, and Kimmie Rhodes. Other acts featured tonight include Mandy (The Mangler) Barnett and Craig Morgan. I'm sure glad its on from 5 to 7:30 PM out here on the west coast! (lol)
Opry Schedule: http://www.opry.com/shows/ThisWeek.html

Also, the Ernest Tubb Record Shop "Midnite Jamboree" has been playing historic archived shows lately and tonight's show features Mac Wiseman. I would guess the one Engine 145 regular who might be tuned in tonight is Jon W. On February 4th it will be Roy Acuff, so I don't want to miss that one!

Kellie Pickler likes traditional country and puppies.

Who doesn't? :)

Rick, I would definitely recommend giving the new Pickler album a listen. I don't expect that you'll love it quite as much as I did, but I'm sure there are moments that you would appreciate - possibly "Stop Cheatin' On Me," "Mother's Day," etc.

I might have to give that new Kellie Pickler album a listen through. It will have a tough time measuring up to the Pistol Annies debut though...

So Dolly Parton wants to be in on "Opryland V. 2" huh? Good luck!

I think I preferred the "Twangy Americana" style Kathleen Edwards used to pursue. Oh well.

Henry Wagons' cover of Dylan was quite listenable. Sort of what Dex Romweber might be capable of if he had more talent (and a better guitar).

The Jake Schepps track reminds me why I don't care for Bartok's music in any form.

I've found a viable alternative to the Opry on Friday nights! Its a live online DJ show featuring rock and roll from 1955 to 1971 spun by "Ricky The K". It airs for 3 hours starting at 9 PM Eastern meaning I'll only listen to the first hour of the Opry except when they feature artists I really like. Here's the website link for you other early years rock and rollers! (lol)
