Last night I caught the LA stop of Fred Eaglesmith's "Travelling Steam Show" Tour at McCabe's Guitar Shop. This leg of the tour followed Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica and a group of at least 40 well heeled "Fredheads" chartered a bus and caught every concert over the 18 day trek! Crikey! (lol) It was one of the best country/Americana variety shows I've seen in a long time as Fred brought a whole troupe of top shelf musicians along. The Canadian contingent included the very talented Roger Marin and Gordie Tentrees, while Yankee artists included Mary Gauthier and Texan Tiffani Ginn of the Fabulous Ginn Sisters. The only drawback to featuring all these other fine artists in solo sets was that it didn't leave much time for Fred's songs or his wacky stories. Fred is one of those "must see" artists if he comes your way even if you've never heard his music! I will warn you that Fred is quite profane and loves the "F Word", which has gotten him banned from most major Canadian music festivals. When it comes to Americana style entertainers, Fred is about as "unique" as they come. (PS - Fred even made fun of the whole Canadian Celtic music scene as well.)

Gosh, they are getting some mighty fine writers to contribute to CMT's Edge! Hey Juli, when are you going to climb on board that CMT gravy train?

I'd much rather see Elizabeth Cook featured on an episode of "The Office" rather than a Rainn Wilson side project. Oh well.

Most of the music Emily West has recorded in Nashville isn't very country, but it is always interesting. I just hope she homes in on a style that earn her a decent living. Go Emily!

Love the Emily West song and video, “That’s How the Girl Gets the Boy in the Movies”. I don't think anyone would call it country music but that's ok with me. As I commented on That Nashville Sound last week, I'm still enjoying her EP "I Hate You, I love You". I guess that wasn't country either. Maybe she's aiming for another market. It had to be discouraging when country fans didn't embrace her "Blue Sky" single a few years ago.
