Still can’t choose – they had sooo many great songs.

Saw on That Nashville Sound that the Courtyard Hounds will be putting out a new album next year. Looks like the Chicks are done. I’m glad I got to see them twice.

Either the very first Dixie Chicks song I heard (“There’s Your Trouble”), or their cover of Patty Griffin’s “Truth No. 2.” The chorus on “Truth No. 2″ is enigmatic, and Natalie sings it so well.

I am torn. I’m a huge, huge, huge, huge Darrell Scott fan, and regularly cover Heartbreak Town, so sometimes it’s my favorite…

honked the horn when we crossed the state line
woke up the baby and she started to cry
she must have known what we were going to find….

I would have to say, though, my favorite of theirs is Travelin’ Soldier.

Cryin’ all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band….

Every time I hear that lyric I choke up. It’s by far my favorite.

I could pick about five or six favorites, almost all from “Fly” (undoubtedly one of my desert island discs), but if I’m limited to one, I’ll say “Hello Mr. Heartache”. Natalie’s voice on it,along with the terrific production and prominent steel make it perfect already, but the lyrics are what really do me in. They’re at once so sophisticated and clever, while still maintaining a raw and heartbroken edge. It just doesn’t get any better.
