I was wrong for thinking the recollection of Gram Parsons by Bill Conrad was interesting. Not only was it not interesting, it was as unpleasant as standing next to a man peeing in a gas station rest room (which as anybody who travels by car and has even minimal powers of observation knows, barely has room for one person, anyway.)

I thank Country Music Cop for pointing out how uninteresting the Parsons item was and how defective I am and I apologize to all for having been wrong. I think Ms. Thanki should consider apologizing, as well, for even quoting from and linking to the uninteresting Parsons item.

The guy gives a first-hand account of Gram Parsons, as a child, performing in a Shakespeare play, singing the Whiffenpoof song in a chorus–and even elbowing him for messing up the harmony–and then being given a solo of “Deck the Halls.” Hardly what you’d get from urinating next to him in a rest room.

Hardly anything more, actually. If you actually read the piece, you'd know that the dude was in the same class as Parsons for all of two prep school years. If you actually read the piece, you'd have noticed that he was unable to recall any more interaction with Parsons during that whole time other than a poke in the ribs. And that his only subsequent interaction was when he ghermed him after a show a few years later.

If Robert Caro were writing a full-length biography of Gram Parsons, he’d think he struck gold if he interviewed Bill Conrad and came up with that info.

Ah, yes, the old "I'll hypothesize that someone else with skills and knowledge I'll never have would respond as I do, and use that to support my argument - because really, I've got nothing else" gambit.

It’s a side of GP that I’d never known of.

The point is that there's no "side" there.

If you'd like to know something about Parsons, there are several books available. Some even talk about music - a subject in which you apparently have no interest whatsoever.

Hey Jonno--If you're in a cranky mood, that's fine. I'm not going to tell you that you should be interested in something that doesn't interest you.

Of course, you mischaracterize what Bill Conrad offers up, but that's par for the course. The guy gives a first-hand account of Gram Parsons, as a child, performing in a Shakespeare play, singing the Whiffenpoof song in a chorus--and even elbowing him for messing up the harmony--and then being given a solo of "Deck the Halls." Hardly what you'd get from urinating next to him in a rest room.

The recollection from Bill Conrad about Gram Parsons was actually quite interesting–more interesting than a lot of things that are written up.

To those for whom accounts of random encounters with musicians are more interesting than discussions of music, maybe. Although this seems to be a particularly trivial account - "I went to school with this dude, and then I didn't see him for a long time, and then I saw him at a concert, so I went and said 'hey' to him, and then I never saw him again." Wow, dude!

Funny that Country Music Cop is snarking about it--Wonder what GP did to fall out of his ambit of protection!

I'm waiting for Dolly to donate her first post- surgical enhancement bra to the Smithsonian! (lol)

I'm sorry to hear about T Model Ford. Her performed at one of the Roots LA concerts at the Echo in Echo Park in the last year or two and his sound was quite unique.

Music City Roots Alert! Tonight's MCR will feature Gretchen Peters, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Martin Family Circus, Pert Near Sandstone, J.P. Harris and Tough Choices.
Schedule: http://musiccityroots.com/shows

I see we're not done with the Gram Parsons hagiography yet. Next up: recollections of the guy who peed next to him at a gas station rest room one time.
