The question was asked: "Ever been underwhelmed or disappointed by a live performance of an artist past his or her prime?"
Answer: Absolutely YES! In fact every time I listen the the Friday and Saturday Night Opry's over 50% of the music presented consistently falls into that category...

I guess Nora Jane Struthers' stint with Bearfoot moved her squarely into a bluegrass / old timey string band mindset! I'll have to check out her new album when it becomes available as the sound from that live performance leaves more than a little to be desired.

So Sarah darling has gone from being a mannequin in the first Big and Rich music video to being the new face of Moon Pies! That's quite a career trajectory! (lol)

The Bluegrass Situation's "Past Their Prime" article is a good read. I have to say though, my #1 musical experience last year was watching Ralph Stanley hush a rowdy crowd foll of punks and rednecks singing "O Death"

As for the article regarding the BBC Radio Folk Awards, whatever you think of Mumford & Sons, I think it's absurd to suggest that their international commercial success is due, in significant part, to the fact that Marcus Mumford is married to a British actress, Carey Mulligan (who BTW, I've never heard of, and I own two of their albums).

But of course, their are many, many talented and deserving artists who never attain widespread, or even limited commercial success-- and the sky is also blue.
