  • Aussie singer-songwriter Catherine Britt has signed with Universal’s Lost Highway imprint. Hope this means we’ll get a new record from her later in the year.
  • Phew, Ashley Monroe says the Pistol Annies haven’t broken up. They’re all focusing on new solo records right now.
  • Sarah Jarosz was excellent on Conan last night. (warning: autoplay)

  • Ronnie McCoury and Jason Carter are helping out Yonder Mountain String Band on the road this month, since YMSB’s regular mandolin player is taking paternity leave.
  • KEXP recently posted a 20-minute video of Jason Isbell’s September in-studio performance.
  • Stream David Crosby’s new album, Croz. (warning: autoplay)
  • If you’re in Massachusetts, go see the play The Devil’s Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith and then tell us about it, because it sounds neat.
  • The Hangout Music Festival 2014 [Free] Mixtape includes cuts from The Avett Brothers and Shakey Graves.

Music City Roots Alert! Speaking of Ray Benson, he will be performing songs off his new solo project tonight on MCR backed by Milkdrive! Other artists scheduled are Jerry Douglas (Presenting the Earls of Liecester?), the Deadly Gentlemen, Matrimony, and Seryn. Sounds like fun! Grade: A

That’s really cool that Universal is opening an Aussie division of Lost Highway to support local artists down under and signed Catherine Britt. I don’t know if that means any of her future albums will be released here in the US on the Nashville based Lost Highway label, but it sure makes it a lot more likely! Go Catherine!

I think both Miranda and Ashley were just too busy during 2013 to keep up with staging Pistol Annies live shows, and its likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future. It is nice to know they will still be recording music together though as the Annies.

I’m looking forward to both of the Ray Benson projects he talks about in that CMT Edge interview! Go Ray, All the Way! (lol)
