Carrie Underwood Launches Website, Tim McGraw To Release Album, And Country Sales Increased In 2006

  • Carrie Underwood has launched a new website for her fans. It looks to be geared towards her most dedicated fans, though, since the only content available without paying is news, events, and a store. Apparently someone scooped up the CarrieUnderwood.com domain, so don’t expect to find the site there. Instead, you’ll have to go to CarrieUnderwood.fm, which is the top-level domain for the Federated States of Micronesia, or I suppose if you wanted to, you could think of it as FM radio.
  • Tim McGraw is set to release his next album, Let It Go, on March 27, 2007. McGraw’s last studio album, released way back in 2004, went platinum 4 times over. You can listen to the first single, Last Dollar (Fly Away), from his upcoming album on his website and read a review over at Country Universe.
  • CMT reports that country album sales declined slightly in 2006, but total sales, including digital tracks, singles, and music videos, jumped by 19.4 percent over 2005. Rascal Flatts and Johnny Cash were the best selling acts of the year, although it isn’t clear whether this is across all musical genres or just country across all music genres, as a reader pointed out in the comments. They also state that six country acts were among the top ten artists receiving the most airplay last year. Not bad, not bad at all.

The figure on Rascal Flatts and Johnny Cash is for all genres – RF being the #1 selling artist of any genre (they also had one of the top 5 selling tours as well)

Yeah, the whole issue of whose up and down seems skewed by many factors, not the least of which is SoundScan’s exclusion of Wal-Mart in their stats.
