Sorry to hear about Tim Johnson's passing. Nashville needs more songwriters of that caliber these days, not less.

Last night I was fortunate enough to see Radney Foster perform a solo acoustic gig as part of his tour to support the new Del Rio Texas Revisited CD. There were maybe 60 fans at The Mint Club and the venue was the most quiet I have ever experienced it! Yay! It was like being at The Bluebird if it were located in Austin these days. Radney was in great voice and sang my favorite songs off the Del Rio album as well as hits he's written for others, like "It's Raining On Sunday". It's these types of shows that remind me there can be "holy grail" live musical experiences on rare occasions. I also saw Tift Merritt on Saturday night at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica and it was okay. I just find Radney's music a whole lot more powerful and interesting. Still, I'm just thankful whenever top notch real country or Americana artists perform in LA period.

I'm just so excited to hear the Garthster is getting back in the game!...(lol) Hopefully he will have about as much success as Shania Twain has experienced recently. I think Garth should just purchase Branson and rename it "Garthville"!

I hope Emily West keeps experimenting until she finds something that works for her in the marketplace. There has to be a niche somewhere!

Will Hayden market her upcoming album under the Juliette character name? If she picks songs from great songwriters, such as Ashley Monroe, Angaleena Presley, or Kacey Musgraves for example, it could be a worthwhile project. Emphasis on "could"...

Ken, thanks for the Rhoads link. I'll check him out.
I'm surprised Broussard hasn't had any chart success. Even "Home" didn't do much. More recently, I liked his duet with LeAnn Rimes, "When It's Good".

Bob, here's a link to Rhoads' MySpace page with several of his songs that were on his 2007 album, Dead Language: http://www.myspace.com/ksrhoads. My familiarity with him only comes from him opening for Marc Broussard shortly after that album came out.

RIP Tim Johnson - Collin Raye's "Someone You Used to Know" is my favorite of his songs mentioned above.

Another good song from Emily West. Wonder if she'll find success as a duo. I never heard of KS Rhoads. Can he sing or could he be her Kristian Bush?

I liked Garth a lot through his first 3 or 4 albums.

At some point though, it seemed that the Garth Brooks story became more about how many copies he was selling than about WHAT he was creating.

Late in the game, they started to package six of his albums in one box and to sell the whole thing for $20--(and of course, each box counted as six albums). I don't know how much of the "128 million albums" figure is attributable to stuff like that. I think at one time, they claimed that he actually pulled ahead of Elvis and the Beatles, but I suppose those "rivals" must have pulled ahead of him since then.
