Count me out as an E145 contributor, but I’ll never miss an opportunity to say how Dolly’s “Coat of Many Colors” slays me every time I hear it.

I’m not interested in winning the purse, but there are so many great albums out there. I would agree with Ken about Dolly’s “Coat of Many Colors” as being perhaps the peak, but several others that are seldom out of reach of my turntable are Emmylou’s “Pieces of the Sky,” Jessi Colter’s “Diamond in the Rough” (did you know that Jessi was the most commercially successful artist on “Wanted: The Outlaws” when it was released?), and, of course, the early work of Tanya Tucker.

Jolene by Dolly Parton. Wonderful song by a wonderful woman.

Emmylou Harris’ Live at the Ryman is one of my favorite live albums, not to mention by a female artist.

After learing of Susanna Clark’s passing I pulled out Emmylou Harris’s “Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town” because it includes “Easy From Now On.” I’m going with that album– I had almost forgotten how great it is.

One of my favorite songs by a female vocalist would have to be Reba McEntire’s remake of Bobbie Gentry’s 1969 hit ‘Fancy’. She brought back a classic and made it a timeless treasure!

Lucinda Williams’ “2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten” remains fresh every time I hear it, and if memory serves me right it was my gateway into roots music in general.

Gosh, I have always wanted a purse just like that! (lol)

Trying to pick one song is impossible, but out of necessity I will go with the Jean Shephard song “Two Whoops and a Holler”. It combines the best facets of “girl singer” sass and rebellion against male domination from Rose Maddox before her to Loretta Lynn afterwards. Just may be the perfect country song…

It comes down to either “Second Fiddle (To An Old Guitar)” by Jean Shepard or “Where Is My Castle” by Connie Smith

I’ll go with Rosie Flores’ “God May Forgive You (But I Won’t)”

If it’s not my favorite all-time song by a female artist, it’s my favorite one that I listened to while driving on the NJ Turnpike last night.

Dolly’s 1982 “Whorehouse” version of “I Will Always Love You”.

My favorite song will have to be Dolly’s “I Will Always Love You.” She surprised our family by singing the song in memory of my sister in law, who was a huge Dolly Parton fan. Many songs may come and go, but that song will always hold a strong memory in my heart

The Mountain Soul album by Patty Loveless is fabulous, start to finish, but I particurly like Daniel Prayed. Naming a single thing is very hard. Despite the stunning lack of variety in female performers on country radio today, there is a lot out there to appreciate.

For favorite album, I have to go with Lucinda Williams’s Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Worth all the hype, as far as I’m concerned. Great from beginning to end.
