As his career blossomed and grew, our enjoyment of his music grew right along with it. This new CD is truly a gift. A musical gift of enormous proportions from an artist to his fans. He made this CD for us, his fans. Every track bests the original. And what longtime Gene Watson fan would ever have believed that a re-recorded “Farewell Party” could be better than the original? But it is. Gene’s voice, his professionalism, his desire for perfection in his music are all clearly apparent on this wonderful CD. If you like traditional country music, Gene Watson is your guy and his music is your music. A “must have” in any country music collection!

I saw Gene perform in Weirsdale FL a few weeks ago. Gene always puts on a good show, and varies his show each year so that you’re seeing a fresh show – yes he’ll perform the big three each year (“Love In The Hot Afternoon”, “Farewell Party” and “14 Carat Mind”) but he mixes up the rest of the material so that you’re not seeing the same show over and over again (not that I would mind)

Unlike a lot of the older acts, Gene Watson still sings with the vitality and vocal quality that he did years ago

Gene sounded fantastic on the Tuesday night Opry and although his voice shows some wear and tear, he’s still got it. Gene has stood the test of time in a way which the vast majority of today’s Top 40 country male artists never will.

I was surprised earlier this year when the Engine 145 writers didn’t consider it to be one of the top 20 albums of 2011.
