On Friday night's Opry Marty Stuart brought out 89 year old Don Maddox, the last remaining sibling from the Maddox Brothers and Rose band. Don is in town for the opening of the Bakersfield Sound exhibit at the CMHOF and sang two old songs that brought him standing ovations. Although Don claims to have now been retired for 53 years(!), he can still fiddle up a storm! Thank you Marty for bringing Don on stage to do this while he still can as it was about the best "Opry Moment" I've heard yet. Talk about an amazing living link to the historical past of the roots of California based country music...

That Nashville Scene article on the Bakersfield Sound exhibit brought tears to my eyes. I love how the exhibit pays proper tribute to the Maddox Brothers and Rose as the initial driving creative force that gave rise to the whole Bakersfield Sound movement. (Now if they would only induct them into the CMHOF as should have been done years ago.) It was nice that the Hag paid tribute to Bill Woods, the Godfather of the Bakersfield club scene, with a song on his great "Let Me Tell You About a Song" album. Oh how I wish that exhibit would be moved lock, stock and barrel to a building near Buck Owens' Crystal Palace after it's run at the CMHOF is finished.

Gosh, I'm surprised Chet Flippo didn't faint with excitement and adoration at Spruce's speech at SXSW! Chet's deep roots in the ultra-leftist Rolling Stone magazine are clearly on display here. If I had been there, my reaction would likely have been different, like maybe barfing a lot..

Amy Dalley is doing yet another live online Stickam "album release" concert this coming Monday night with her full band. The last time it was half an hour of just Amy and her husband on acoustic guitars and it was a delight. Amy provides the basic info as follows:
When is it? Monday Night March 26th at 8pm CST.
How can I watch? www.stickam.com/amydalley
As for advance preparation Amy relates:
"Go to www.stickam.com and check it out first. It is super easy to use. (There is a lot of dorky dumb stuff on there but also people like me just wanting to share music and friends!) ...oh and btw...I WILL have a moderator on that night to keep spammers and pervs off the site! Ha, don't be afraid!". (lol)

Opry Alert News Worth Reading! (From AllAboutCountry.com):
"Opry Country Classics will return to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Thursdays from March 29th through May 24. (Waaayyy Tooooo Short!!!) Larry Gatlin has been tapped as host of these shows. The first show on March 29 will help open the new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum “The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and California Country."

Those scheduled to perform include Larry Gatlin, Elizabeth Cook, Jim Lauderdale, Chuck Mead and Leona Williams. On April 5th The Ryman will host some of the ladies of Country including Lynn Anderson, Janie Fricke, Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis.

Other artists throughout the season will include The Time Jumpers, Marty Stuart, Charlie Daniels Band, Mel Tillis and Loretta Lynn."

BTW: Tonight's Opry will feature: Ricky Skaggs, Joe Diffie, Mallary Hope, Restless Heart, Dustin Lynch, and Marty Stuart with wifey Connie Smith. Grade: B+!
