I’m A Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas – I remember when I was kid and the family was driving through Dumas and my dad started singing this song. Seems like there was another song by joe ely about dumbass texas but I’m drawing a blank.

‘I’m A Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas” fun version of that song on Robert Earl Keens former fiddle player Brian Duckworth’s album if i’m not mistaken of the same name as the song. FYI, another current REK sideman also has an album out none other than Bassist Bill Whitbeck with a charming ditty extolling the many virues of Luling, Texas city market BBQ. Sorry the ADD has kicked in and i’m rambling. LOL!

That Radney Foster video brings back fond memories…of last Sunday night when he kicked off his set here in Los Angeles with that song! (lol)

Would that Spotify survey’s percentage result have been even higher if the song in question was “I’m A Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas”?

OPRY Alert! Tonight is sadly the short season close out of the Thursday Night Classic Country Oprys. (Sniff, sniff, it makes me shed a tear into my O’Doul’s near beer.) Fortunately it’s gonna be a barn burner as the spotlight act is The Time Jumpers (WooHoo!) The other artists featured are Daryle Singletary (who will indeed be having too much fun), Mandy Barnett (who seems to have outgrown the “mangler” phase), Rebecca Lynn Howard (who still won’t forgive!), Charlie McCoy (who just might play the harmonica), and lone Opry Legend Jeannie Seely (who always picks cool songs for these Oprys). Grade: A+

The more I read about the CMA Awards show, the less interested I become in watching! What’s up with that? (lol) Thank goodness for the live blogs it engenders or it would be a total waste of time.

Ya know, there’s nothing wrong with Lee Stabert not wanting to hear “the new stuff.”* But that “we” stuff has to go. Lots of people keep embracing the new. (In the specific instance of the Old 97s, that’s particularly easy.) What is this need to insist that everyone reacts to music the same way?

*Though I sure hope, in the interest of consistency, that Stabert has not also made a habit of condemning “boomer nostalgia.”
